Dad’s Army marches on Bridlington

January 25, 2016

Bridlington is looking forward to becoming Yorkshire’s latest must-visit film destination for the new Dad’s Army film. With a pre-release showing in Bridlington set for Wednesday 3rd February, the film goes on general release on the 5th February.

Until now it has been best known for its exemplary fish and chips, the faded glamour of its seaside resort and the 600-year-old claim to fame of being visiting by Henry V. As of 2016, the historic streets of Bridlington are set to become the latest must-visit destination, after it was selected to bring Dad’s Army back to life.

Bridlington’s Old Town is the key location in the remake of Dad’s Army, the new British blockbuster starring the toast of Hollywood. The film, starring Toby Jones, Bill Nighy, Sir Michael Gambon and Catherine Zeta Jones, was filmed almost entirely on location in the resorts of Yorkshire, from the historic towns to the pristine coastline masquerading as the White Cliffs of Dover.

The main street of Bridlington’s Old Town has been transformed into the 1940s Walmington-on-Sea, as filmmakers attempt to recreate the authentic world of the Second World War Home Guard.

Other scenes from the film visit nearby Scarborough, Duncombe Park, Beverley, Flamborough, Bempton, Loftus, Pickering, Leeds Town Hall and Helmsley as well as favourite day trip destinations of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

David Hinde, our website’s “Latest News” pin-up who as Bridlington Town Crier, holds the world record for the loudest town cry, has already taken the lead role in the opening shot of the film’s trailer, leading a St George’s Day parade in full regalia.

A great reason to visit this beautiful Yorkshire seaside town in 2016.
