I began my career as a Blue Badge Tourist Guide in London in 1977 but two years later I was drawn to the North of England by its literary associations, fascinating history, vernacular architecture and intriguing archaeological heritage all set in areas of outstanding natural beauty. After over here 40 years guiding here in the North I still feel privileged to have ‘the best job in the world’.

As a Blue Badge Driver Guide for Yorkshire, Cumbria and the North East I provide customised tours for individuals and groups of up to six people across Northern England. I like to think I am a friendly and versatile guide, offering interesting and entertaining tours that bring to life the sights and stories of Yorkshire. I specialise in tailoring tours to your specific needs, bringing out the features that most interest you. Tell me what you are interested in and I’ll make it happen!

I love taking people on and off the beaten track sharing the stories and secrets of each distinctive area through its landscape, literature, people past and present, villages and market towns.

The City of York is a great favourite of mine with its magnificent Minster, city walls and the nooks and crannies of its intriguing ‘snickleways’ and hidden gems round every corner. A walking tour of York is a must!

Explore Yorkshire’s National Parks – The North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales – with me in my 4X4 delving deep into the valleys to unravel the layers of history from prehistoric times to present day.  Stop to admire standing stones, ancient chapels, evocative monastic ruins, historic houses and gardens, all of which Yorkshire has a-plenty. See how people are making their living today farming, or providing local food and drink experiences, and watch local artists and crafts people at work. I love to share the distinctiveness of each area with my visitors.

As a keen walker I’m always happy to include short walks or longer hikes exploring the countryside, maybe following in the footsteps of writers such as the Brontes or the vet James Herriot and artists like JMW Turner and David Hockey.

I offer a personal service and will always ‘go that extra mile’  to ensure you have the best possible experience on foot or by car. I hope to meet you soon!
